Overcoming the Mountain

Today’s post is not deep theology. It is a simple reminder of the strength we can find when we are in the word of God.

Sometimes the mountain in front of us can feel overwhelming. With God we can find the strength to keep moving forward. If you find yourself with what feels like an impossible mountain to overcome, hold on to the truth of the word of God and keep pressing forward.  Psalm 18 is one of my favorite Psalms and it is the perfect scripture to turn to when you need strength to scale what is in front of you.

“It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer; he causes me to stand on the heights. He trains my hands for battle; my arms can bend a bow of bronze. You make your saving help my shield, and your right hand sustains me; your help has made me great. You provide a broad path for my feet, so that my ankles do not give way”. Psalm 18:32-34

Have faith and trust God to give you the strength you need to get to the next mountain top. Lastly, don’t forget the power of prayer and the power in praying scripture.  If there is a mountain in front of you, this prayer is for you and it is taken from Psalm 18.

Abba Father, Today I pray that you give my brother/sister strength and keep his/her way secure. Make his/her feet like a deer so that he/she can stand on new heights. Lord be his/her shield and may your right hand sustain him/her. Father, provide him/her with a broad path so that his/her ankles do not give way as he/she overcomes this mountain with you by his/her side.  In Jesus’s name, Amen.

Today I hope you take a moment to read all of Psalms 18 and let the truth of God’s word fill you with strength.  Here is the link to Psalm 18 but I hope you choose to open your bible instead of reading it online. There is something so special about the feel of the Bible in your hands.
Keep pressing forward and have a Simply Blessed day.

Woman to Woman…Mary

Today we are wrapping up our look at the women in Matthew 1, the lineage of Jesus.  Mary is the last woman listed and she has the honor of calling herself the mother of Jesus.

Mary was from the town of Nazareth in the hills of Galilee. She was from a poor but honorable family who were descendants of Israel’s greatest king, David. Mary was trained in the scripture and knew that God had promised to send the Messiah who would rescue her people and be their king. Right after the 400 years of silence, the time between the Old and New Testament when no new Scripture was written, and no prophets had spoken, Mary’s story unfolds.

What is amazing about Mary’s story is that people believed that the king would come from a wealthy and powerful family. Instead God choose a poor girl from a humble family.

Mary is the perfect example of God choosing the most unexpected person to do something for His kingdom.  No one would have ever picked David to slay Goliath but God did.  No one would have ever thought Joshua could bring the walls down by marching around the city of Jericho and blowing a trumpet but God did.

It is so easy to fall into the trap of thinking we are not good enough.  We may think God has better candidates to choose from for the job but God knew exactly what He was doing when He chose David to slay Goliath, and He knew exactly what He was doing when He chose Mary to carry His Son. God knows exactly what He is doing with you too.

Trust God to use you as He sees fit. Mary was the only one in the group that did not have sin that is mentioned.  Unlike Ruth who comes from a line of people whom God had cursed, Mary was a descendant of David. She, however, was not who most people thought God would have chosen.

God picked exactly who was to be a part of the genealogy of His son so that it would show His grace and mercy.  From these five women we can see that no matter how big our sin or whether we don’t see ourselves as worthy, God has made it clear that we can call ourselves heirs of His kingdom.

We need to believe who we are in Christ and understand that there is nothing that we have done that is too big for His forgiveness.

I hope you join me again next week for the Women to Women series.

Keep Moving Forward

Life is not always butterflies and rainbows There will be times of pain. In those times we can look to the one constant thing…God. He will walk through the fire with us. When we turn to His word we find truth. It is the truth of His word that we will be encouraged to keeping moving forward even when we feel like stopping.

Scripture tells us:

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire , you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you. Isaiah 43:2 NASB

If you are walking through something painful, you are not alone. God is with you. You just need to trust Him. He loves you so much that he sent his only son to die for you. Hold tightly to Him and keep moving forward.

Have a Simply Blessed day.

In all things…”FROG”

My friend’s daughter and I have a special thing that we call ourselves…

We are “FROG SISTERS”. Not because we look like frogs, and not because we like frogs but, because of what FROG stands for…

F-ully

R-ely

O-n

G-od

In all things the two of us remind each other to do just that.

When life throws the sucker punch, and it often does. You also need to trust God, trust the truth of His word, and remember that He is sovereign in all things.

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. Romans 8:28

Today take a moment to dig into the word of God and read these two scriptures: Psalm 9:9 and Psalm 18:2 . Mark them in your bible as a reminder that you can Fully Rely On God. You can also simply click on the two scriptures and see what they say.

Have a “Simply Blessed” day and in all things FROG

Pre-order your copy “Simply Blessed” and help fight hunger. $1 for every pre-order between now and December 31 will be donated to Generation Alive and $1 covers the cost of 4 meals.

Slide to the Right

I trust my husband as a pilot. I put my life in his hands every time we fly. He has however, had me do a little emergency training of my own to be prepared for an unexpected emergency. I think any time we get into a plane we are putting our trust in a pilot that we do not even know.
If we are willing to trust the hand of man/woman on the yoke of the plane as it soars through the sky, why is it so hard for people to trust God? For some reason it’s difficult for us to give up control and be the co-pilot. Truth be told, it’s okay to be the co-pilot.
Let go and let God be in charge. As the co-pilot you still need to train for the unexpected turbulence, emergency or change in your heading with prayer and study. No matter what, you can trust God in the pilot seat. Today I hope you will move to the right seat (the co-pilot seat) and give God the left seat so he can take control. When you slide over to the right seat you will be held in the arms of Jesus who is seated in a place of honor at the right side of His Father. So what are you waiting for? Slide to the right and have a blessed day.

The Reward Will Come

By Traci Mertens

Screen Shot 2014-10-13 at 10.59.44 AMEver since I can remember I have wanted to be married, have four kids, a dog, a cat, and a picket fence. That’s every girls dream, well maybe not every girl but quite a few! I had it all planned out. I would meet my husband in high school or college. We would get married and have all of our children by the time I was 30. Guess what. My plans have not come to fruition! I turned 31 this year and have never had a boyfriend, thus no husband or children for me. I do have my precious cat Piper but that’s about it from my dreams so far.

When I am frustrated that my plans are not working out I have to cling to my life verse, Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans for a hope and a future.” God has me in the palm of His hand and He knows the end result of my life so I don’t have to worry.

It is so important to remember all the blessings that God has given you inScreen Shot 2014-10-13 at 11.06.31 AM life as you are going through the trials and the waiting. Trials will come to all of us, big and little, but we are blessed no matter what!  He cares about us more than we can even fathom.  Last year I had the word “blessed” tattooed on the inside of my left foot. I had been planning on getting a tattoo for quite a few years before I actually did it. I choose the word “blessed” because looking at my life I can see so many ways that God has blessed me. This summer I was working at a camp and heard a sermon on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5. The Beatitudes teach us that we can rejoice NO MATTER WHAT because our reward is not on this earth, but is in heaven and we get to go there someday!

My next tattoo (for my right foot) will have something to do with “no matter what” because I choose to declare that I am BLESSED, NO MATTER WHAT. This will be a declaration that I will choose to be blessed no matter what happens in my life but also a tribute to one of my best friends and one of the strongest women that I know. My friend, Danielle, is fighting stage 4 breast cancer but her devotion and unwavering faith is the epitome of being blessed, no matter what. When I lack faith I just have to think about her and the battle that she is fighting and her example increases my faith.   I am so grateful for her example in my life. We are praying for a miracle but know that God’s plans are already made. He is doing great things through her.

I encourage you to look at your life, reflect on the blessings that the Lord has bestowed upon you. When the trials come, be blessed. When the good happens, be blessed. In all things, be blessed. Our Father is preparing our reward for us. Please, while you wait in anticipation for your heavenly reward rejoice in the blessings that He has given. -Traci
